Light Therapy and Light Therapy Products
Light therapy treatment has been used successfully for years now to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder, commonly referred to as SAD . Researchers at more than 15 medical centers and clinics in both the U.S. and abroad have had very good success with light or photo therapy treatment in patients who had a history and diagnosis of SAD. A great improvement is noted within as little as a few days - less than a week. The symptoms usually reoccur in about the same time frame when the light therapy is withdrawn. A report of a study commissioned by the American Psychiatric Association which appeared in the "American Journal of Psychiatry" finds that the results of light therapy, also known as photo therapy are comparable to clinical studies of antidepressant drugs used as therapy for SAD and other depressive disorders. "But when you throw out all the studies that are methodologically flawed and then conduct a meta-analysis of those that are well-designed, you find that light therapy is an effective treatment not only for SAD but also for depression." Most users will want to maintain a consistent schedule beginning in early fall and continuing through April. In most cases by April the outdoor light is sufficient to maintain a high energy level and good mood. The therapeutic benefits are clear, but the therapeutic mechanism of light therapy is still a bit unclear. It is known that the blood levels of melatonin are rapidly reduced by exposure to a light therapy source. It depends on when you have exposure to the bright light. Your body's internal clock which controls things in a certain rhythm or pattern throughout the day and night, can be shifted ahead or delayed when you are stimulated by the light therapy lights. Side effects are usually mild and can be controlled by adjusting your exposure levels. They usually resolve after a few days. Some Light Therapy models also produce negative ions. The negative ions have also been proven to be helpful with SAD patients. Negative ions are produced naturally in nature. Negatively charged particles are produced by the sun, moving water (babbling brooks) and the wind (breeze). These negative ions make the air around you clearer, cleaner and fresher. This has been shown to reduce irritability and increase energy levels. Dawn Simulation is another type of treatment for SAD patients. During this type of treatment the person is exposed to bright light during the final stages of sleep. It's set by a timer. It simulates the bright light of dawn on a Spring day. Wake up gently to the rising sun, the way we were meant to..... This light can also help with your setting internal "clock" and suppress melatonin secretion and it has an antidepressant effect. *sources: http://www.columbia.edu and http://www.unc.edu

The Himalayan salt rock emits a negative Ionic charge naturally. This effect can be intensified by warming the rock. There is a small light bulb in the middle of the rock. As the rock warms it emits negative ions into the air. Negative Ions clean the air of Dust, Pollen, Animal Dander, Smoke, Odor and even Mold Spores. By doing this, Negative Ions can help to relieve the symptoms of Hay Fever, Asthma, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Depression and Chronic Fatigue. These Himalayan Salt Crystal lamps are a beautiful, healthy addition to any space in your home or office. Salt lamps have been used as natural treatments for Rheumatism, Allergies, Respiratory diseases and Migraines successfully for many years.
The Himalayan Salt Crystal Rock Candle holders have the same benefits as the lamps, you provide the candle, odorless or a natural scent, if you prefer. The lamps and candle holders are a beautiful part of nature and a welcome addition to anyone's home or apartment.
